Known issues and fixes

The common problems and what fixes them. If yours isn't here, start a thread with your OS, browser or app version, and what you tried.

Installing the desktop app

The desktop builds aren't signed with a paid Apple or Microsoft certificate yet, so both operating systems warn you the first time. The download is safe, and it's the same one linked from /download.

macOS. You'll see a message about an unidentified developer. Right-click the app and choose Open. If macOS still won't have it, allow it under Privacy & Security in System Settings. There are separate Apple silicon and Intel builds, so grab the right one.

Windows. SmartScreen says "Windows protected your PC". Click More info, then Run anyway.

Linux. There's a .deb for Debian and Ubuntu based systems (amd64), installed with sudo apt install ./ followed by the file name. There's also an AppImage: mark it executable with chmod +x, then run it.

First launch of the app

The installer is small because the art downloads after you open it. The game is playable within seconds, and a readout in the corner shows the rest coming in. Leave it running and later matches start faster and can run offline.

Updates

• Browser: refresh the page.
• Mac and Windows app: it checks for an update every time it starts and installs it for you.
• Linux AppImage: updates itself the same way.
• Linux .deb: can't update itself. Download the new .deb from /download and install it over the old one.

If a multiplayer game shows as Other version in the game browser, the host is on a different build to you. One of you needs to update.

The game won't start, or the screen stays black or white

• Use a current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
• Make sure hardware acceleration is on in your browser settings. Modern 3D needs it. Restart the browser after changing it.
• On laptops with two graphics chips, make sure the browser is using the dedicated one.
• Still stuck? Switch to Classic 2D (below), which is lighter.

Low frame rate

Everything here is in Settings → Graphics.

• Detect Recommended checks your hardware and picks a preset. Start there.
• The quality slider runs from Low to Ultra and sets shadows, weather, water, grass, model detail and effects together.
• Adaptive Quality is on by default. It lowers quality in big fights to hold 20, 30 or 60 FPS (your choice), then raises it again.
• Game World Resolution draws the 3D world smaller (down to 720p) while menus stay sharp. On a big, high resolution screen it's the easiest win.
• Render Mode → Classic 2D is the lightest option of all. Press O in a match to flip between 2D and 3D and compare.

On a laptop, plug it in. Battery saving modes throttle the graphics chip hard.
