There's a new single player mode, and it isn't strategy at all.

You pick one hero and drop into a dungeon you haven't seen before, controlling them directly with an action bar and a bag. No base, no workers, no army. Walls block your sight, so you really do round a corner and a room appears.

What's in it:

  • Seven dungeon themes, from Dwarven Hold to Ratmen Undercity, or Random
  • A choice of which faction garrisons the place and which of their heroes waits in the boss room
  • Doors that block movement and sight, so a room stays a surprise until you open it
  • Furniture and gold piles you can smash for loot
  • Win by beating the boss, clearing the dungeon or escaping it

It's still a work in progress and the balance is loose, so tell me what feels off.

I wrote about what had to change to make an RTS engine do this in Putting a dungeon crawler inside an RTS.

A small party with a torch in a stone crypt, glowing eyes watching from the dark arches
